Practical Guide
Essential
Information.
01
Environment
Weather in April
Mexico City’s spring is mild and dry. Expect daytime highs of 25–28°C (77–80°F) and cool nights (10–12°C). Since the city sits at 2,240m altitude, UV radiation is strong—sun protection is essential.
Local Time
We operate on Central Standard Time (CST), UTC−6. Daylight Saving Time is no longer observed here, so the time remains consistent year-round. Typically 1 hour behind NYC (ET).
02
Transactions
Currency & Cards
The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). While credit cards (Visa/MC/Amex) are widely accepted in hotels and restaurants, you will need cash for street vendors and small tips.
Tipping Etiquette
Tipping ('propina') is customary.
• Restaurants: 10–15%
• Bellhops: ~50 MXN per bag
• Valet: ~20 MXN.
03
Well-being
Drinking Water
Do not drink tap water. Always rely on bottled or purified water, even for brushing teeth if possible. Ice in reputable venues is generally safe.
Smoking Policy
Mexico has one of the strictest anti-tobacco laws. Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all public spaces, parks, beaches, and hotels (including balconies). Fines are significant.
04
Logistics
Electricity
127V, 60Hz. Plugs are Type A/B (flat prongs), same as the US and Canada. Visitors from Europe or Asia will likely need a travel adapter.
Connectivity
Telcel offers the best coverage. 5G is available in key areas. Free Wi-Fi is common in cafes, but a VPN is recommended for open networks.
