Environment

Weather in April
Spring is one of the most pleasant seasons in Mexico City. Expect daytime temperatures of 25–28°C (77–82°F) with cool evenings (10–12°C / 50–54°F). The climate is generally dry with clear skies and low humidity. Because the city sits at 2,240m (7,350 ft) above sea level, UV radiation is intense even on mild days — sunscreen, sunglasses, and light layers are strongly recommended.
Altitude Considerations
At high elevation, some visitors may experience mild fatigue, dehydration, or shortness of breath during the first 24–48 hours. Stay well hydrated, moderate alcohol intake, and allow time for adjustment if engaging in physical activity.
Local Time
Mexico City operates on Central Standard Time (CST, UTC−6) year-round. Daylight Saving Time is no longer observed. Reference differences: New York (ET): +1h | London (GMT): +6h | Paris: +7h | Tokyo: +15h.
02

Transactions

Currency & Payments
The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN). International credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments. However, small cash (MXN) is necessary for taxis, gratuities, and small vendors. Airports and banks offer reliable exchange services; hotel exchange counters typically have less favorable rates.
Digital Payments
Contactless payments and digital wallets are increasingly supported in urban areas. ATMs are widely available and generally secure inside banks, hotels, and shopping centers.
Tipping Etiquette
Gratuities ('propina') are customary and form a significant part of service workers' income. • Restaurants: 10–15% • Bell staff: ~50 MXN per bag • Valet parking: 20–30 MXN • Housekeeping: 30–50 MXN per night
03

Well-being / Logistics

Drinking Water
Tap water is not potable. Use bottled or purified water for drinking and brushing teeth. Ice in reputable hotels and restaurants is typically filtered and safe.
Health & Air Quality
Mexico City’s altitude and urban environment may result in dry air or occasional pollution alerts. Those sensitive to air quality should monitor local advisories. Lip balm, eye drops, and hydration are helpful for comfort.
Smoking & Vaping Regulations
Mexico enforces comprehensive tobacco control laws. Smoking and vaping are restricted in most public environments, including parks, public squares, beaches, outdoor restaurant areas, and many hotel premises (including balconies). Fines may apply.
Electricity
127V, 60Hz. Plug types A & B (North American standard). Travelers from Europe, Asia, or the Middle East will require adapters and possibly voltage converters for certain devices.
Connectivity
5G and LTE coverage are strong in business and hospitality districts. Free Wi-Fi is widely available in hotels and cafés. For corporate devices, secure network practices such as VPN usage are recommended when using public networks.
Transportation
Ride-hailing apps operate reliably and are generally preferred over street taxis. Hotel-arranged transport is recommended for airport transfers and executive schedules.
